It’s official: when it comes to dark chocolate, the health benefits can no longer be denied. According to the site Tampa Bay Online, men who eat at least 2 ounces of dark chocolate a week will lower their chances of having a stroke by 17%.
So, ladies: you’re going to have to share.
Scientific studies have said that women who eat dark chocolate have health benefits, too, but since men eat far less chocolate then women this is pretty big news.
No one’s really quite sure why it works. In the simplest terms, there’s something in dark chocolate that works the same way as fruits and veggies. (So clearly, chocolate covered strawberries must be doubly healthy, right?) And the candy companies are definitely paying attention. There are a ton of options out there now for all of your favorites with dark chocolate instead of milk chocolate, like Snickers Dark. If you’re anything like us, dark chocolate-covered espresso beans are to die for – and now, because of them, you might even live a little longer.
